Young Carers Therapists in Brighton & Hove

Supporting Young Carers

Young carers are children or teenagers who provide care for a family member with a disability, illness, or other condition. Balancing caregiving responsibilities with school, social life, and personal well-being can be overwhelming for young carers, leading to stress, anxiety, and feelings of isolation. Many young carers struggle with balancing their responsibilities and maintaining their own emotional health.

How Counselling Supports Young Carers

Therapy offers a supportive space for young carers to express their emotions, discuss their challenges, and develop coping strategies for managing their caregiving responsibilities. Counselling helps young carers process feelings of stress, guilt, or frustration and provides tools for balancing caregiving with their own needs and development.

Building Emotional Strength

Through therapy, young carers learn to build emotional strength and resilience, helping them manage the demands of caregiving without feeling overwhelmed. Counselling also focuses on promoting self-care and encouraging young carers to prioritize their own well-being.

Improving Relationships and Support Systems

Young carers may feel isolated or disconnected from their peers. Therapy helps young carers improve their relationships with friends, family, and teachers, creating a supportive network to help them balance their caregiving roles with personal growth and well-being.

Integrative Psychotherapist

I’m an accredited psychotherapist with 15 years experience.I believe that the counselling relationship should be a creative space for both parties. It should feel comfortable and open enough to be free from anxiety and pressure in which new perspectives can emerge. In my view most mental activity takes place below the level of conscious awareness and my role is to help people gain access to it and insights from it.As an accredited therapist I am affiliated with several private healthcare companies including BUPA and AXA. I have an up-to-date DBS certificate which is registered on the update service. As well as working with individual adults, including trainee therapists, I have many years' experience working with children, couples and families. I have been a university counsellor so have a lot of experience working with students and young people and have also worked in secondary schools.
