Mentalisation-Based Therapy

What is Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT)?

Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) is a form of psychotherapy designed to help individuals better understand their own thoughts and emotions as well as those of others. Mentalisation refers to the process of making sense of one’s own mental state and the mental states of others. MBT is particularly effective for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and other conditions where emotional regulation and interpersonal relationships are challenged.

How Does MBT Work?

MBT aims to improve emotional regulation and interpersonal functioning by helping clients reflect on their emotional experiences and how they relate to others. Through the therapy, clients learn to recognize and better manage their emotions, reducing impulsive behaviors and improving relationships.

Who Can Benefit from MBT?

  • Individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD)
  • Those dealing with difficulties in emotional regulation or interpersonal relationships
  • People seeking to improve their self-awareness and emotional understanding

MBT is particularly effective for individuals with emotional dysregulation, providing tools for better understanding emotions and behaviors.
