Transactional analysis

What is Transactional Analysis?

Transactional analysis (TA) is a psychoanalytic theory and method of therapy that examines interactions (or transactions) between individuals to understand patterns of communication and behavior. Developed by Dr. Eric Berne, it focuses on the roles we play in our interactions, which are influenced by three ego states: Parent, Adult, and Child.

How Does Transactional Analysis Work?

In TA, the therapist helps individuals or groups explore the transactions they engage in, identifying which ego states are active during interactions. By understanding these dynamics, individuals can learn to communicate more effectively, break unhealthy patterns, and develop healthier relationships.

Benefits of Transactional Analysis

  • Increased self-awareness
  • Improved communication skills
  • Better emotional regulation
  • Healthier relationships

Transactional analysis is often used in individual, group, and family therapy settings to address communication problems, emotional distress, and interpersonal conflicts.

Psychotherapist & Counsellor

I am a qualified UKCP registered Psychotherapist. I aim to help people heal and integrate. I’m a parent, a skateboarder, a basketball player and I’ve done a lot of therapy.I don't do psychic amputation. I believe you can't cut off a part of yourself you don’t like or that causes you pain - and that you will run into more problems if you try. I do believe you can reach into your heart and soul through therapy and establish a healing relationship that will give you the resources you need to live well and fully.
