Art Therapy

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that utilizes creative expression to help individuals explore their emotions, thoughts, and experiences. Through various artistic mediums like drawing, painting, or sculpture, individuals can express themselves in ways that may be difficult to articulate through words alone.

How Art Therapy Works

  • The process of creating art allows individuals to express emotions that are difficult to verbalize.
  • It provides a safe, non-judgmental space for emotional exploration.
  • Art therapy encourages self-reflection and personal insight.

Who Can Benefit from Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is effective for people of all ages and can be used to treat a variety of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. It can also benefit those struggling with self-esteem or communication issues. Artistic expression allows individuals to externalize and process their feelings, which can lead to significant emotional healing.

The Benefits of Art Therapy

  • Provides a creative outlet for emotional release.
  • Encourages self-discovery and personal growth.
  • Improves emotional regulation and coping skills.
  • Promotes mindfulness and relaxation.

Is Art Therapy Right for You?

If you enjoy creative activities or are seeking a non-verbal way to express and explore your feelings, Art Therapy can be a highly effective form of emotional healing. Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, or simply want to engage in self-discovery, Art Therapy offers a unique and powerful path to well-being.

Integrative Psychotherapist

I’m an accredited psychotherapist with 15 years experience.I believe that the counselling relationship should be a creative space for both parties. It should feel comfortable and open enough to be free from anxiety and pressure in which new perspectives can emerge. In my view most mental activity takes place below the level of conscious awareness and my role is to help people gain access to it and insights from it.As an accredited therapist I am affiliated with several private healthcare companies including BUPA and AXA. I have an up-to-date DBS certificate which is registered on the update service. As well as working with individual adults, including trainee therapists, I have many years' experience working with children, couples and families. I have been a university counsellor so have a lot of experience working with students and young people and have also worked in secondary schools.

I do believe you can reach into your heart and soul through therapy and establish a healing relationship that will give you the resources you need to live well and fully.

Therapist / Counsellor

A Registered Member of the BACP, I've trained extensively in psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling, working with the past, memories, dreams and the unconscious. I also volunteer with two leading mental health organisations and benefit from bi-weekly supervision to deepen my knowledge and approach.I’m also a third-culture person. I grew up in the UK with mixed Romanian and Serbian heritage. I know what it's like to perform versions of yourself while quietly feeling like someone else. Cultural identity, migration, belonging and othering are all woven into my psychology and therapeutic practice.I aim to maintain a genuinely inclusive space across culture, identity, sexual orientation, relationship structure, faith, and background. I don't work from a single script of what a person, a relationship, or a life should look like. I work within an ethic of non-harm, to self and to others, and I ask the same of the therapeutic space we share.Ultimately, I came into this work wanting to understand and aid my own mental wellbeing. I've had personal therapy for over a decade. I can only take you as far as I've gone myself, and I've gone deep. In other words, you're in safe hands, and you will be held week after week, for as long as you keep showing up.

Integrative Counsellor MBACP

We often think that we can manage on our own, but there comes a point when we need to reach out and seek support. Perhaps you are feeling anxious or depressed? Maybe you are finding life overwhelming or have a sense of sadness, hopelessness and despair? Or maybe you are feeling angry and frustrated? If you are experiencing any of these emotions then counselling can really help you to make sense of things, better understand yourself, and overcome the issues which are causing you distress. I am a qualified counsellor and member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and I have experience of helping people who suffer with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, low self-esteem, childhood trauma, self-harm, relationship and family conflict.  If you’ve never had counselling before then finding the right therapist can be confusing and intimidating, so it’s important that you take time to find the right therapist for you. Please don't hesitate to contact me for a free initial telephone consultation so that I can find out a bit more about what's troubling you and we can explore how I can help.
