Humanistic counselling is a form of talking therapy rooted in the belief that all people have an innate capacity for growth and self-healing. Developed in the mid-20th century by psychologists such as Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow, it rejects a purely clinical view of the mind. Instead, it focuses on the lived experience of the individual in the present moment.
Unlike cognitive or behavioural approaches that target specific thought patterns or behaviours, humanistic counselling takes a holistic view — considering the emotional, psychological, spiritual, and social dimensions of a person's life.
